Lunch and Learn Seminars |
Petro Management Group (PMG) offers several “Lunch & Learn” seminars to the industry. Conducted by Saad Ibrahim, P.Eng., the seminars focus on the practical aspects and include numerous case examples to maximize the benefits to the attendees. Complimentary sessions can also be arranged in-house for groups of 10 or more. |
How to Get the Most Out of Well Testing |
|
Well testing is a powerful reservoir characterization and management tool. To get full benefits from this tool, obtaining representative, meaningful and good quality well test data is crucial. The three stages of conducting well testing and related tasks will be reviewed:
- How to design and plan a well test
- How to monitor the test in progress
- How to deal with test data when a well test is complete
Numerous case examples will be used to illustrate how to identify operational problems, perform quality control, and correct distorted test data. |
Horizontal Well Performance and Reserves Evaluation |
|
The success of horizontal well technology has resulted in a flurry of “Hz” drilling similar to that of the gold rush era. The various techniques commonly used to evaluate horizontal well performance will be reviewed.
Real field examples will illustrate the planning, implementation and the results of horizontal well applications for naturally fractured reservoirs, water injection, and other examples.
The use of pressure transient analysis (PTA) to determine some of the key reservoir parameters will be discussed. The industry standard methods used in reserves evaluation of horizontal wells, including volumetric, statistical and empirical methods will also be reviewed. |
Exploitation of Coalbed Methane (CBM) |
|
The potential of exploiting CBM reservoirs is significant; the CBM gas reserves in Canada are estimated at over 500 Tcf. The CBM reservoirs behave differently from conventional reservoirs, therefore, specific techniques should be used to evaluate their production performance, reserves estimate, and field development. The factors that influence the commercial development of CBM will be discussed including:
- Gas content
- Characteristics of the coal such as density, rank, and permeability
- Deliverability and recoverable reserves
