Roger Hough

Roger Hough has worked in the oil industry since 1967 when he joined Shell after graduating in Applied Mineral Sciences from the University of Leeds. He worked for Shell for 32 years in various countries - notably the UK North Sea, Italy, Malta, Brunei, Oman, Netherlands, Canada, and Venezuela. In Venezuela, as Operations Manager he was charged with getting an offshore drilling and production venture operational, (sour production). Prior to that he had various assignments in the area of drilling technology and petroleum engineering - including a spell heading up Shell International's "well technology research" program. Roger has been active with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) over many years, and has chaired a number of SPE technical conferences. He was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer on the topic of 'Slim Hole Drilling Technology'. With a career spanning 40 years in the oil industry, Roger Hough now teaches drilling technology at the University of Calgary and other organizations.
